1939 CHEVY COUPE

Too many times, model Chevies come in only the ’55-57 variety when you may have a hankering for something older and stronger. I was ambushed at a model show with an elaborate screenplay idea of Emil’s that included he and I in similar vintage Chivs set in a futuristic Skyway that was being overshadowed by an evil force. Emil said it was an actual nightmare that came to him like a vision. My girl overheard the entire elaborate plotline and calmly asked “so he’s one of the model guys you know?”
For some reason I headed back to Skyway and ended up getting this molded-in-black Monogram ’39 that is the closest I could get to the cars in the nightmare.
I’ve lowered the suspension and it is sitting on some dirty vintage Johan whitewalls for added grit. Stay tuned for final paint and assembly-

1938 Ford Truck

Revell's 1937-38 Ford Pickup kit is a modeler's dream. It not only contains options for '37 or '38 grilles, there are two complete sets of axles and suspension, and two sets of quality skinny tires and vintage steel rims. Revell was infamous for years for their terrible two-piece tires that needed to be cemented together (always looked bad) but in recent years their tires are excellent. I decided to go with the oddball 1938 grille and build the thing as a hauling truck with a ratty homemade bed on the back. When it is painted and weathered, you will see it here again. Here's a mockup of the 1937 front- I'm gonna get another one of these and do it as a '37:

1950 Chivrolet

These Chevy trucks are round and pretty like a woman's body, while being incredibly rugged and durable. I've been meaning to put one of these together for a while now, and this one really looks good to me underneath a coat of primer. For tires I used both rear pairs from the old Lindberg vintage dirt modified double kit, done in flat black. It sits higher on these tires than on the Firestones that come with the kit. Haven't decided what kind of body to put on this one- stay tuned.

fiddy five

I have two of these fifties Cameo kits, and '55 and a '57. The '57 is finished in red primer and looks 90% done, and this '55 was built as a flat bed and awaits final grime application. People notice this one in my room and remark how dirty it looks. Those slicks are vintage sixties with original patina, and the goblin shark model is an absolute marvel: an animal rarely depicted as a toy- BB

two tons of CHEVROLET

Two of these little trucks were sitting there in Skyway and I had to grab one and try it out. The curves of Chevrolet's early trucks are legendarily sexy, and even in the ludicrous scale of 1/48th, this two-ton shines. It is a fun if difficult kit, an early small Revell kit with questionable fit. It was shot in predictable gray primer but given overtones of green and blue with acrylic and pastel. It was finished with Italeri decals and matt clear.
